Planning Your Bridal Shower Flowers

shutterstock_150361421Traditionally, the bridal shower is a time for the bride to be treated to a special party courtesy of her friends and family, but some modern brides are actually planning their own showers alongside their best friends.

Sometimes a bridal shower might be something grand like a dinner at a banquet hall. Other bridal showers might happen in a backyard, like a little garden party among friends.

Flowers are one feature you’ll want to plan for the bridal shower whether you’re the bride planning her own party, or you’re the bride’s best friend and are looking to surprise her with something fun and beautiful.

Cool and Trendy Flower Ideas

One of the easiest ways to choose flowers for the bridal shower is to think about flowers that match the ceremony. Has the bride chosen to plan a beautiful white wedding? Fill the bridal shower with arrangements of white roses. Or, if the bride is a little less formal in her arrangements, something Boho chic like white daisies are also a beautiful choice for bridal shower flowers.

One fun idea for bridal shower flowers is to let everyone wear them at the party. Seeing a beautiful vase of roses on each table adds some class and elegance to the gathering, but it’s also fun to think about how those roses might look in each guest’s hair.

Consider This: Want a beautiful and unforgettable party favor for the bridal shower? Have each guest make floral garlands to put in another guest’s hair. It’s a beautiful and fun activity for any bridal shower, particularly if you’re not into the silly gags usually featured at bridal showers.

Choosing Flowers for the Shower

There aren’t any particular rules you need to follow for choosing flowers for the bridal shower, but an easy way to choose the right flowers is to think about the location where the shower will be held and choose accordingly.

For example, if you’re holding the bridal shower in a backyard with a garden party theme, you might think about arrangements full of wildflowers and a lively mixture of a half-dozen types of flowers. On the other hand, if the party is to take place indoors in a formal setting, you can never go wrong with classic flowers like roses.

No matter who plans the bridal shower flowers, make sure to make a call in advance to order the flowers so you can make sure the flowers you want are available. Planning is particularly important if you’re looking at a summer wedding and a spring or early summer bridal shower.

Upcoming Summer Wedding Trends

shutterstock_143579107The approach of spring signals the start of wedding season. Some wedding traditions are so classic that they’ll never go out of style. Since a wedding represents the start of a new life journey for couples, we think this brand-new adventure should embrace fresh trends – beginning with the wedding. Here at Blossom Weddings, we’re always on the lookout for modern trends to use in the floral designs we create for couples who come to us in search of flowers for the most important day of their lives.

We hope that some of the ideas we’ve come up with to incorporate the 2015 trends into different styles of bridal décor will inspire couples and help them come up with ideas for ceremony, reception, and bridal party floral arrangements for their summer wedding.

Look to Nature for Inspiration

One of the hottest new trends for 2015 is the use of natural elements in floral décor. We’ve taken that concept and created a unique but edgy arrangement that is the perfect accent for the cocktail hour. We call it Peony in Limes. We took a simple clear bubble glass and filled the bottom with sliced limes. We added pale pink peonies that are just starting to open. The result is a real show stopper that’s simple, but elegant.

Incorporate Vintage Elements

Couples are drawing inspiration from vintage fashion and trends. Even if a bride doesn’t wear grandma’s wedding dress or veil, or have any special family heirlooms to use as “something old,” there are still ways to embrace vintage styles or ideas. One super trendy and very beautiful way to take an old-fashioned idea and turn it into something modern, fun, and whimsical is by choosing a nosegay style of bridal bouquet.

A nosegay is just a tight round, mounded cluster of flowers. If you’ve ever heard of a tussie-mussie, then you know what a nosegay is. You can choose any color or type of flower you want. The beauty of this type of bridal bouquet is its versatility. It works with any wedding theme, and it’s suited to any location.

Bling is another important new trend for 2015. You can add bling to your floral décor in many ways. For bridal bouquets, corsages or boutonnieres, add jeweled accents or crystals. For the reception décor, use crystals and hang them from eco-inspired branches to create a truly elegant, and regal setting.

Stargazer Lily, the Perfect Wedding Flower

shutterstock_171266801Lilies have long symbolized chastity and virtue, which made them a popular addition to an old fashioned or traditional wedding. While looking for modern options for wedding flowers, however, today’s brides have started using bright pink stargazer lilies for the ideal combination of contemporary love and time-honored devotion.

Contemporary and Happy Flowers

The name of the stargazer lily is entirely appropriate since it’s difficult to take your eyes off this beautiful flower when someone brings it into a room or a bride walks down the aisle with stargazers in her bouquet.

Recently developed in the 1970s, stargazer lilies were named because of the way they look up at the sky when they open. In addition to their bright and joyful persona, stargazer lilies also smell like heaven as a result of the plant breeder’s efforts to combine the fragrance of the Asiatic lily and the look of the Oriental lily.

Although pink stargazers are a vivid addition to your wedding, you don’t necessarily need to focus upon pink as your primary color. In fact, pink stargazers look lovely with décor in colors like blue, pale yellow, and orange. Think of the stunning combination of orange tiger lilies and pink stargazer lilies for your wedding bouquet.

Depending upon your color scheme, you can choose almost any traditional wedding flower for inclusion in your bouquets, table arrangements, sprays, and other flower displays. If you’ve decided on a pink wedding, your stargazers will look at home in arrangements with classic gerbera daisies, carnations, and roses.

Or you can try pairing it with roses and hydrangea in a beautiful, large centerpiece.

If you’re interested in getting a little more adventurous with your flowers, you may also consider using orchids with your lilies. Something about the striking architecture of these two flowers allows them to set one another off beautifully, particularly when used in cascade bouquets.

The Perfect Flower for a Contemporary Wedding

If you want to create a minimalist and contemporary look for your wedding, you may think about using only stargazer lilies in very simple arrangements. They look fashionable and chic when allowed to float in round bowls of water, and they look elegant with their long stems placed in soaring vases.

Stargazer lilies are a versatile addition to your wedding flowers whether they’re your premier bloom, or they’re part of a lovely bouquet of different orchids, roses, and carnations.

Red Wedding Decorations

Every month has thumbnail 4.59.56 PMa representative color, and January’s color is red. The word red immediately conjures up mental images of passion, intensity, and a reminder that it is also the color that symbolizes heart health.

While a read heart may not appeal to everyone as a theme for a wedding, there are many unique, traditional and unexpected concepts that any couple can choose as the theme for their wedding. The trick is to incorporate red into that theme and decorating scheme in a way that goes beyond the obvious.

Consider Using Jewel TonesTightRoseBouquetwithCrystalCrown2-14111015641

Think about some gorgeous precious gems. Rubies are spectacularly beautiful, garnets are equally gorgeous, and emeralds, amethysts, tourmaline, aquamarine, even diamonds are all incredibly elegant and would work very well as the colors for a wedding based on sheer glam and glitz.

To avoid the obvious, consider using red crystals. You can use these in your ceremony décor, including the flower arrangements, the jewelry the bridal party wears, or by glamming up belts they add to their dresses. You can also string crystals so they hang over the ceremony area, or along the aisle for the ceremony. If you add those crystals to the reception or cocktail space, they will cast a beautiful reflection off some dramatic lighting.

Play up the red by using it in your lighting. Soft red lighting can create a dramatic, but romantic setting for the reception area.

Use Red on Tables

The obvious way to use red would be in the table linen, but doing the obvious and expected isn’t going to turn the wedding into something uniquely your own. If you don’t want to overdo it with the red, use splashes of it. Instead of using gold or silver chargers under the plates, use red ones. Instead of using traditional plates, consider using plates that have a red border or red design around the perimeter or in the center. Use napkin rings that are lacy red metal.

If you want to have candles on your tables, use red ones. You can even use red votive or tea light candles to add a touch of red without going overboard. Create red shadows on your tables by adding red glass to your tall floral centerpieces that may or may not include red flowers. If you want some red in your centerpieces, add bling red accents that will shine or cast a red reflection onto the table with creative lighting.

There is no limit to the way you can add red to your wedding décor. Everyone at Blossom Weddings wants to help you create the most spectacular wedding you could ever imagine – one that surpasses anything you could have imagined in your wildest dreams. We’re ready to help you turn your ideas into a spectacular event that everyone will remember for many years.
